The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has extended the tenure of outgoing PG resident doctors amid the delay in NEET PG counselling. The decision aims to reduce the workload on existing batches until the new batch joins after counselling.
The Ministry has asked all central postgraduate institutes of medical education and research to extend the tenure of PG residents of the outgoing batch 2022-2025 till the fresh batch of resident doctors join the medical colleges.
The NEET PG counselling has been delayed due to the addition of MD/MS seats and the withdrawal of 169 DNB seats after the beginning of round-1 of PG counselling. The seat matrix for the NEET PG counselling will be revised.
The delay in NEET PG counselling has left many medical students in limbo. The extension of the tenure of outgoing PG resident doctors is expected to reduce the workload on existing batches until the new batch joins after counselling.
The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) will soon hold a meeting with the National Medical Commission (NMC) and the National Board of Examinations (NBE) to discuss how soon the revision of PG seat matrix can be concluded.
