The Supreme Court has directed the National Board of Examinations to disclose its policy on publishing NEET PG answer keys. The move aims to bring transparency in postgraduate medical entrance examinations.
The directive comes amid petitions seeking greater transparency in postgraduate medical entrance examinations.
The petitions before the Supreme Court call for more openness in the NEET-PG evaluation process, particularly through the disclosure of answer keys, raw scores, and normalisation methods.
Petitioners argue that the absence of these details has raised doubts among candidates regarding the fairness and accuracy of results.
During Friday’s hearing, the counsel representing the NBE contended that the petitions were being pushed by coaching institutes that wish to gain access to the answer keys for their own commercial advantage.
The lawyer warned that releasing the answer keys could “compromise the quality and confidentiality” of the examination process.
The Supreme Court bench, however, stated that the NBE must clearly define its position in writing. It directed the Board to submit an affidavit detailing whether such information will be shared with candidates and, if not, to specify the reasons for withholding it.
The court’s directive builds on its April 29 order, which had emphasised the need for transparency by directing the publication of raw scores, answer keys, and the normalisation formula used in examinations.
The Supreme Court's directive is a significant step towards bringing transparency in postgraduate medical entrance examinations. The move is expected to benefit NEET PG aspirants and promote fairness in the evaluation process.
